The PGFC committee had a meeting a little over a week ago where we discussed the
possibility of having a veteran's team that was a part of the club and played on
a regular basis. Now, I have spoken to most of you individually and there seems
to be a lot of enthusiasm from you lads to get this organized on a more
structured basis.
Getting straight down to it, I have said that I will take on the organisation of
the team (kit, fixtures, back-supports, lung machines etc) if we have enough
momentum.
The idea is to play once, or maybe twice, a month, probably on a Sunday morning
against veterans teams from the area (Cowfold, Henfield, Southwater, Horsham)
and roll back the years - some more than others.
As the team will be a 'proper' PGFC team, players will have to sign on to the
club, but only as veteran players, so there is no danger of you being called up
by the first or reserve team - unless you're mad enough to want to.
To cover the cost of PGS&SC membership, kit wash, pitch etc, it will most
probably be in the region of ten pounds a season, something like that and,
probably, subs when you play. I will also try to book a five-a-side pitch fur
the team to use once a week. And there might be a cost there as well. First up,
the obvious questions are, does this sound like a good idea? and will you commit
to it?
I have sent an email to many lads whose email addresses I have got. Please pass
the word to any of the guys who you think would be interested, with a note to
drop me a line and I will take it from there.
Any questions, just ask.
Regards,
Andy Whibley

Partridge Green Vets v Henfield Vets
Sunday 13 September 2009
Home
Result 3 - 6
Scorers; K Miller, C Young, M Francis
MOTM; A Whibley (voted by Henfield)
A bright, sunny Sunday morning heralded the start to the Vets new season as we
kicked off with a rearranged home fixture against local rivals Henfield.
The team for the day consisted of a few new faces due to the unavailability of
many of our regulars and we didn’t make the best of starts when Henfield opened
the scoring in the first 10 minutes. The visitors went 2 up shortly afterwards
with a well taken goal and The Green were struggling to find a foothold in the
game. Slowly the recovery began and following good work from Adie Taylor, Keith
Miller pulled one back with a typically cool finish. Chances were coming thick
and fast at both ends with good saves from John Reeves at one end and spurned
opportunities at the other, with the Henfield keeper making some miraculous
stops from goalmouth scrambles. Partridge Green finally got their just rewards
when Crippa Young beautifully lobbed the keeper from the edge of the area and we
went into the interval 2-3 behind.
The opening exchanges of the second half were fairly even with lots of goal
attempts from both sides .The extra quality from Henfield's midfield was
beginning to show however and 3 further goals from the visitors’ excellent
central midfielder killed the game off. There was still time for debutant Mark
Francis to round off the scoring for The Green with a little help from the
goalkeeper. All in all, an enjoyable game played in great spirit from both
teams.
Team ; John Reeves, Mark Green, Steve Painter, ‘Tigger’, Steve Nyahoe, Jeff
Bartle, Andy Whibley, Simon Wood, Christian Young, Keith Miller, Adie Taylor.
